A beautiful Lake City, a popular tourist destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Bhimtal is named after Bhima from Mahabharata. This famous Hill Station is situated at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level and is about 22 km from Nainital. The Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple (an old Shiva Temple), near the Lake bank, is believed to have been built by Bhima. While he visited the place during the banishment (Vanvas) period of Pandavas.

This beautiful Lake city is famous among tourists for its fun activities like Boating and fishing, Water Zorbing, Trekking, Paragliding, and Camping. Like other Lake cities, Bhimtal is one of the best places to visit in Nainital (The Lake district of Uttarakhand). An Island (Now a Beautiful Large Aquarium) at the center of the Lake is worth seeing. The weather is also fantastic (In Summer from 15 °C to 29 °C, while in Winter from 4 °C to 18 °C).

History of Bhimtal

The History of Bhimtal, a popular lake town in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand is related to Mahabharata. The name of this ancient place is named after Bhima of Mahabharata.

At the bank of Bhimtal Lake the famous old Shiva temple “Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple” is situated. This Temple is believed to have been built when Bhima visited this place during the Vanvas (The Banishment Period) of Pandavas. The present temple was built in the 17th century, by Baz Bahadur (1638–78 AD), a Chand dynasty King, the Raja of Kumaon.
